About Us
Joan
So i'm Joan and i was born in October 1968, i've spend most of my life in the Northern area of the Netherlands, specifically Groningen. Till the age of 24, the furthest i traveled was Germany and i never experienced flying. However this would soon change as i came up with the bright idea of applying with a cruise company for a bar tending job, i sort of reckoned they would never hire me. But i got the job and the following 3 years i worked on cruise ships, as a bartender at first, but soon i transferred to the Casino.
Because of this amazing experience traveling stole my heart and gave me the opportunity to explore about 21% of the world. Some of the places that especially left a huge impression are for example; Odessa with her wide streets, big park and theatrical architecture. Quebecs beautiful harbor, high city walls and the wonderful medieval atmosphere, while having a vibrant and trendy night life. Alaska with her breath taking nature sites, the totem poles and little serene towns. Chichen Itza with her amazing grotesque ruins and culture. These are only few of the places, because it's just to much to mention and every place i visited had a certain charm. Furthermore i, of course have a long list of places i still want to explore in the future, because i can't imagine life without traveling. Therefore i count myself a lucky girl that, 5 years ago in Bas i not only found the love of my life, but also a very passionate travel companion.
Bas
The name is Bas, born in 1971, i lived in almost all the big cities of the randstad, in the Netherlands. The study of my choice was the art-academy, with a major in photography. This probably explains why i'm often seen with a camera in my hand.
Three of my passions for life are, traveling, photography and building web sites (Like this one). After my studies i ended up working in the IT business, where i had the opportunities to work on several large web sites. Nowadays my work consists of, mostly managing projects and i have enough spare time to, every once and a while build a web site for the fun of it, or experience and discover new countries with Joan.
I myself didn't get to 21% of the world yet (only 19% so far), but together with Joan this figure will grow, because there are enough places she still wants to explore.
East Africa was one of those places, were we share many unforgettable memories and had a change to meet wonderful people. People we would to give something back to. This is why we got the idea of starting BaraBara Safari. This is surely a place were we will return.
